Gracious God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit:
Thank You for Your many blessings especially for Your love that gave us faith in Jesus as our Savior and Lord.
Forgive us for our unfaithfulness and for wavering in our witness of You. Give us the words and courage to speak of Your love at every opportunity.
Through Your Holy Spirit, bring a renewal of Christian faith, morality, and other virtues in America and the world. Fill our hearts with Your holy peace!
Thank you for the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of this country.
Protect our country from all harm. Bless us with righteous leaders who will preserve liberty for future generations.
Change hearts of those who do not know You, our loving, Triune God.
Give them true faith that they may experience Your eternal love.
We pray for ourselves, our families, and friends especially ___________.
If it be Your holy will, heal our (their) bodies and minds. Give us confidence to know Jesus is with us and will help us through our struggles. Guide us each day that in all we do, our lives may give glory to Jesus.
In Jesus holy name, we pray. Amen.
2 Ch 7:14 “...if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
The writing of the Bookmark Hymn followed the writing
of the Bookmark Prayer. I prayed a similar prayer often for years.
After writing it down, my pastor suggested I give it to Lutheran Hour
Ministries. Its title is Bookmark Prayer because as LHM printed it on heavy
paper, it could be used in one’s Bible or book as a bookmark, and thus a
reminder to pray. Our country desperately needs God’s intercession. A few
month’s later, the hymn’s beautiful melody and words came very quickly to me.
